Investigation into Delta Enterprises' recall of 1.6 million drop-side cribs, announced on October 21, 2008. The recall covers approximately 985,000 cribs that were manufactured without safety pegs and another 600,000 that were manufactured with defective spring-loaded safety pegs. These cribs were manufactured between 1995 and December 2005, with the exception of one model which was manufactured in 2007. The missing or defective safety pegs allow the drop-side of the crib to detach and can create a dangerous gap, which can cause entrapment and suffocation risks to infants and toddlers. Since May 2007, two infants have died after crib sides detached as a result of missing or defective pegs. The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) is also aware of nine disengagement incidents in cribs where the safety pegs were missing. Cribs with missing safety pegs were made in Taiwan and Indonesia and sold by major retailers, including Wal-Mart, Kmart and Target.com between January 2005 and September 2007.
The model numbers for the recalled cribs with the Crib Trigger Lock with Safety Peg drop-side hardware design can be found on the mattress support board label.
