United States Steel and ArcelorMittal USA Inc. may be unlawfully emitting cadmium, lead, manganese and other toxins into the air in and around Lake County, Indiana.
This is an ongoing investigation and pending class action lawsuit against eleven air pollutors in Lake County, Indiana, including United States Steel and ArcelorMittal USA Inc.
United States Steel and ArcelorMittal USA Inc. are two of the largest steel manufactures in the world.
The class action lawsuit, brought by a group of parents, claim United States Steel, ArcelorMittal USA Inc. and nine other corporate defendants foul the region's air with toxic pollutants to such a degree that children in the area could face life-long development and health issues.
This class action lawsuit was brought after a series of studies revealed children in Lake County, which includes the heavily industrialized cities of East Chicago and Gary, are exposed to higher levels of airborne toxins including cadmium, manganese and lead than elsewhere in the United States.
