Investigatiion and potential class action against Zurn Pex based upon claims from homeowners that the brass plumbing fittings for the Pex plumbing systems sold by Zurn Pex Inc. fail prematurely.
The homeowners claim that the brass fittings used to make connections in Zurn Pex systems were incorrectly designed and manufactured. As a result, the homeowners allege that the fittings fail prematurely - sometimes only a year after installation - resulting in substantial water damage. Zurn has acknowledged that it has seen an increased number of premature failures of these fittings in certain areas but denies that it is liable for those failures. Reputable plumbers who were trained to install Zurn Pex have had hundreds of failed brass fittings.
How to identify if you have a Zurn Pex fitting? Zurn manufactures and sells a type of flexible pipe plumbing called "Pex." Pex is a generic term for plastic pipe made from cross-linked polyethylene. Zurn's Pex piping is usually sold in red, white and blue colors. The Zurn Pex fittings are made from brass alloys. Zurn's plastic fittings and fittings made by other manufacturers are not under investigation or alleged to have any defects. Zurn's brass fittings usually have a "Q Pex" identifying stamp on them.
