American Express operates call centers for customers to call with any issues relating to their American Express credit card. These call centers are staffed with customer service reprenetatives and other call center employees. Rather than pay mandated overtime, American Express elected to pay the customer service representatives monthly non-discretionary bonuses, which failed to fairly and adequately pay the customer service representatives for the overtime hours each worked.
