investigation and potential class action against General Electric.
GE manufactures the spacemaker microwave oven model numbers JVM1630, JVM1631, JVM1640, JVM1642, JVM1650, JVM1651, JVM1660, or JVM1661 (the "JVM Series Microwaves"). Reports have surfaced that the JVM Series Microwaves contain an inherent design defect, in which the component part that is responsible for heating and cooking the food--the magnetron--is incapable to withstand normal operations. The magnetron is manufactured by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.
As a result of the design defect, the JVM Series Microwaves prematurely cease to operate and thus, cannot properly heat and cook food. It is believed that GE knew about this design defect since as early as the year 2000, but GE had failed to and still fails to inform consumers about the existence of such defect at the time of sale or after purchase. Further, based on our investigation, it is our understanding that GE has also failed to recall, amend its warranties and/or reimburse customers for the cost of repairing or replacing the JVM Series Microwaves.
