Investigation and pending class action lawsuit against CertainTeed Corporation, after a recent investigation pertaining to defects in the design, manufacture, advertising and sale of their shingle products.
CertainTweed's shingles may fail to perform as marketed in that moisture invasion destroys the shingles ability to prevent water damage sooner than is reasonably expected. Because of this defect the shingles regularly deteriorate, blister, crack and curl in advance of the expiration of CertainTeed's warranty periods. It is alleged that CertainTeed knowingly and intentionally concealed and failed to disclose that they actually had no intention of providing the services set forth in their warranties. Similarly, CertainTeed has failed to implement any changes to their shingle procedures or warranty procedures to remedy the defects. CertainTeed is a large building materials manufacturer that produces shingles that are later branded as Horizon, Independence, Hearthstead, Hallmark, Woodscape, Sealdon and War-Sealdon.
