Investigation and pending class action lawsuit against Viking Range Corporation alleging malfunctions in the 48 inch side by side refrigerator-freezer unit.
This class action lawsuit involves at least the following model numbers: DTSB483, DTSB483D, VCSB483, VCSB483D, DDSB483, DDSB483D, DFSB483, DFSB483D manufactured by Viking from May 25, 2001 to the present.
The investigation to date reveals that the refrigerators at issue have a water leak because the automatic defrost feature defrosts ice to water more quickly than the water evaporates, thereby overflowing the pan which is the part designed to catch water overflow. It is believed that Viking knew of the solution to this defect, namely the installation of a heater element into the refrigerator, yet Viking refused to install the heating element as it would reduce the energy rating of the refrigerator and in fact violate federal law by exceeding maximum energy usage allowances.
