Ongoing class action lawsuit against Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife) alleging that MetLife' s financial sales representatives violated that fiduciary duty when they failed to disclose to clients certain conflicts of interest created by MetLife's commission structures, fees, job-retention policies and other incentives which gave MetLife representatives a reason, in dealing with individuals such as the plaintiffs, to think first of their own financial interest in maximizing their sales of MetLife's proprietary products.
Specifically, a MetLife financial advisor pushed upon the plaintiff a MetLife proprietary Flexible Premium Multifunded Life insurance policy for the purpose of gaining a larger commission rather than to provide to the plaintiffs the correct insurance and investment product.
